What we do

Brothers of Charity Clare Children’s Services co-ordinates short breaks and supports to families for children aged 5-18 years of age.  We cater for children who have an intellectual disability or multiple disabilities, where an intellectual disability is also present. We aim to provide flexible services which meet individual family’s needs to the best of our ability. 

 

Why

Short breaks provide the carer with a break from the typical care routine – while their child gets the opportunity to meet new friends and participate in social activities.

 

How

Referrals are received from a number of HSE agencies.  Self referrals are also accommodated.   Priority of access is guided by the support needs of each individual child/family. This is informed by the family, our support staff and reports from the referring agency.    Every effort will be made to facilitate requests for respite. 

 

When

·        For a few hours, overnight or a few days

·        Occasionally or on a regular basis

 

Where

We operate a respite facility at Hazelwood House, Ballybeg Ennis.  Capacity of the centre and staff/child ratio is determined by the level of support needs of the children being accommodated.
